Bronze Tibetan Sound Healing & Shamanic Fire Ceremony
Unleash your wild side and immerse yourself in nature with this one of a kind experience under the stars. We will begin with a half mile hike from the parking area to the dome (please wear appropriate footwear and bring a flashlight), followed by a sound healing session in our transparent geodesic dome as you gaze up at the stars surrounded by nature.
Fred Maerkle of Zentastic Wellness will be performing a sound healing meditation right here at the dome at Wild Ride! Here you will experience a deeply meditative and relaxing experience of vibrational sound healing with bronze Tibetan singing bowls, and other sound instruments to create a calming and revitalizing soundscape. The acoustics within the dome are AWESOME! No experience required. As you relax, the vibrational frequencies will surround you in a cocoon of sound that will take you to your own inner space of healing.
You can settle in to our soft sand footing or you are also welcome to bring your own towel, cushion, blanket, pillow or other accessories to make yourself comfortable. After our sound healing session, we will gather around the campfire (weather permitting) for a shamanic fire ceremony. If the campfire is unavailable due to weather or other conditions, Fred will conduct a 30 minute workshop in the dome teaching the concepts and intentions of the Western African Dagara Cosmology Shamanic Fire ceremony.
Whether you are new to these practices or a seasoned explorer, this event is open to all who are seeking healing and inner peace. Join us for an evening of community, connection, and transformation.
Note: these events help support Wild Ride , a 501c3 nonprofit organization & wild mustang sanctuary.
Fred Maerkle is a Usui Holy Fire II Reiki Master, Kundalini Reiki Master, Certified Fengyang Tui Na Practitioner, Certified Fengyang Gua Sha Practitioner, Certified Biofield Tuning practitioner, Certified VFRT & IASTM therapist, and Tibetan Singing Bowl Master Healer.

They’ll be hosting yoga classes on Saturday and Sunday morning and offering hiking with the wild horses as well as berry picking tours on our 40+ acres of organic blueberries.

Orrin Evans:
In the booklet notes for Orrin Evans’ second album, Captain Black , recorded in 1998, the pianist, then 23, made a remark that encapsulates the aesthetic he’s followed ever since on his kaleidoscopic artistic journey. “I go head-first for a lot of things,” Evans said. “I like to stretch out. Wherever the music takes me, I’m going there.”
That attitude backdrops the title of Evans’ 20th album, Magic of Now (Smoke Sessions), which documents a livestream engagement at Smoke Jazz Club during the second weekend of December 2020. Evans and a multi-generational cohort of A-list partners – first-call New York bassist Vicente Archer; iconic drummer Bill Stewart; and dynamic rising star alto saxophonist Immanuel Wilkins, now 23 himself – generate an eight-piece program that exemplifies state-of-the-art modern jazz. From the first note to the last, the quartet, convening as a unit for the first time, displays the cohesion and creative confidence of old friends, mirroring the leader’s predisposition for finding beauty in the heat of the moment.
As he does on five prior albums for Smoke Sessions, eight self-issued albums on Imani Records (his imprint), and earlier recordings for Criss Cross, Palmetto and Posi-Tone, Evans guides the creative flow from the piano, showcasing his authoritative mastery of his instrument and deep assimilation of the fundamentals. A deft tune deconstructor, he traverses a broad timeline of the vocabularies of swinging, blues-infused hardcore jazz and spiritual jazz/avant garde jazz traditions, as well as the Euro-canon, with the intuitive spontaneity of an ear player. He projects an instantly recognizable sound, sometimes eliciting flowing rubato poetry, sometimes evoking the notion that the piano comprises 88 tuned drums. It’s taken a while, but the jazz gatekeepers have noticed – in 2018, Evans topped the “Rising Star Pianist” category in DownBeat Critics Poll, and a feature article about him appears in DownBeat ’s September 2021 edition.
Evans’ stylistically polyglot compositions – influenced by the expansive, individuality-first Black Music culture of his native Philadelphia and by a decade playing Charles Mingus’ beyond-category music in the Mingus Big Band – similarly postulate an environment of “structured freedom” that instigates the personnel to push the envelope in all his multifarious leader and collaborative projects.
In none of Evans’ units of recent years is that no-holds-barred attitude more prevalent than the Captain Black Big Band, a communitarian-oriented ensemble whose fourth and latest album is The Intangible Between (Smoke Sessions), preceded by Presence (Smoke Sessions). Both earned Grammy nominations.
JD Walter:
Vocalist and songwriter JD Walter is considered by many in the jazz world to be the among the very best jazz singers, known for his immediately recognizable smokey sound, his virtuosic talent for improvisation, his compelling original songs, and his ability to reinvent standards.
Over the decades, Walter has performed as a featured artist at numerous American jazz clubs and festivals in the U.S., Europe, the Middle East, and Central America as well as over 80 tours in Russia. He remains a regular in the New York music scene, and has headlined at Dizzy’s Lincoln Center, The Jazz Standard, The Blue Note, and The Jazz Gallery, among other venues.
JD has shared the stage with many legendary artists including: Dave Liebman, Billy Hart, Tom Harrell, Kurt Elling, Taylor Eigsti, Eddie Gomez, Bob Dorough, Nicholas Payton, Jean-Michel Pilc, Mark Murphy, Greg Hutchinson, Ari Hoenig, Orrin Evans, Obed Calvaire, Dave Kikowski, Robin Eubanks, Eric Revis, and others.
JD Walter’s past, present, and future embodies music. From boy choirs starting at an early age to attending The University of North Texas Jazz Program on a full scholarship, Walter has become a pioneer of improvisation and electronic innovations in the world of jazz. His recording career spans over 20 years and his purist progressive approach to jazz music has been recognized worldwide.
After extended studies in Amsterdam with Jazz vocal Icon, Deborah Brown, Walter returned to the U.S. and embedded himself in the New York Jazz scene. He’s released eight albums as a leader and been a guest on over 100 recordings.
In late 2022, JD Walter and New York based Grammy Award Nominated label Arkadia Records entered into a long-term recording agreement for multiple new albums. Arkadia Records will also distribute JD Walter’s eight previously records albums.

History written by Mudcat Ward, bass: In 1977, Sugar Ray Norcia and Neil Gouvin were working southern Rhode Island in their band, Sugar Ray & the Blues Stompers. Up in Boston, Ronnie Earl, still using his given surname Horvath, was beginning to try stage monikers such as Little Ronnie. After a while, the winds of change were swirling. Ronnie and bassist, Mudcat Ward were searching for musical colleagues that wanted to play bluer, lower down, earthier and produce the highest quality blues.
Ronnie chose to book a series of dates out of town, under the name "The Dueces." Neil Gouvin, well-known blues drummer in southern New England, was contacted to make the dates and demonstrated that he could provide the sought-after groove. After reviewing the situation from his own vantage point, Gouvin made the suggestion that altered blues history: get his vocalist/harp player Sugar Ray into this picture.
Although the band enjoyed the four-piece sound, they wanted a larger band and the addition of a piano player. A number of months later, Ronnie and Mudcat attended a show at Paul's Mall in Boston where Muddy Waters and his band were performing. The opening act, a band from New Hampshire, featured a damned good blues piano player. He turned out to be Little Anthony Geraci. Ronnie and Mudcat visited him in Newton, MA where he was in the middle of writing a sonata. The blues musicians offered Anthony the position and he signed on. The band christened itself Sugar Ray & the Bluetones.
They have had multiple personnel changes over the last 40 years but remain true to their blues roots- returning to The Knick and touring throughout the New England area.

DR. WESTCHESTERSON
SUNDAY, JULY 13
PLAYING IN THE TAP ROOM
https://knickmusic.com/events/2025/07/13-dr-westchesterson
Show Time 8pm | Free | 21+
While Dr. Westchesterson is best known as an artist who dares to cross genres- the common denominator between all of his work is a knack for high quality songwriting. Whether he’s writing a hip hop banger or a yacht rock period piece Dr. Westchesterson’s journey begins alone at a piano. And in his twenty-plus year residency as the “house Piano Bar guy” at Captain Nick’s -Block Island’s premiere live music venue- The Dr. has honed his skills not only as a songwriter but also as a first-rate entertainer.
Weaving together a blend of storytelling, original music and covers by songwriters that inspire him Dr. Westchesterson has discovered the secret to holding captive an audience’s collective imagination. His finely curated repertoire of cover songs is a treasure trove of well-known hits and hidden gems by the likes of Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Billy Joel, Elton John, Leonard Cohen, Randy Newman, Harry Nilsson, The Beatles and The Band to name only a few.
With the release of his latest (and much buzzed about) modern-day yacht rock masterpiece, “Better Days Ahead”; D-Dubs has been performing full band arrangements of the album tracks with a band of top-tier musicians. However, it’s the stripped-down versions of the songs performed by The Dr. alone at a piano that allow listeners a taste of the songs’ main ingredients.
But no matter the scenario or venue- Dr. Westchesterson’s main objective is to make sure his audience has fun. So, when the flashy outfits, booming sound systems and flashing multi-colored laser-lights are gone and it’s just The Dr. at his piano, fun is served up in its most potently distilled form. Don’t pass up the opportunity to catch one of Dr. Westchesterson’s solo Piano Bar shows where -truth be told- he’ll probably still be wearing a flashy outfit of some sort.

Sweet Dreams Story Time
Do you wish you could have more of the kinds of conversations you have late at night where for some reason, you feel safe talking about the things you actually care about?
Bring your friends (or come by yourself) and spend your Thursday night at an event where you know everyone else is there for the same reason.
We'll be offering "big talk" conversational prompts on them to get you started, and we'll have lots of structure to make sure that you actually talk to people and that it's not awkward. Not feeling like answering a particular question? No worries, we'll have plenty to choose from, like, "When are you the happiest?" and, "If you were going to become close friends with me, what would I need to know about you?" We'll give you ground rules to make sure you feel comfortable and safe sharing as much of yourself as possible while still feeling in complete control of how much you divulge.
