Music Matters: Homage to Fauré
In honor of pianist-composer Gabriel Fauré , and to celebrate the 15th anniversary of our Music Matters series, acclaimed pianist Matthew Odell is returning to La Grua Center with beloved scores evoking the very essence of this supremely French master. Some of the music is very well known, while some of it is mysterious, tantalizingly familiar, and a magical discovery. Two short pieces by Fauré students Enesco and Kœchlin mark the master's legacy. The 19th-century Chickering concert grand reveals these scores in magnificent colors and with the infinitesimal dynamic shadings the music requires. Regardless of whether you know Fauré's music intimately, this will be a heartfelt and touching afternoon, a warm antidote to our advancing autumn!
