Sugar Ray and the Bluetones
Award-winning Blues.
Saturday, July 12
Show: 8p | Doors: 7p

https://knickmusic.com/events/2024/07/12-sugar-ray-and-the-bluetones
History written by Mudcat Ward, bass: In 1977, Sugar Ray Norcia and Neil Gouvin were working southern Rhode Island in their band, Sugar Ray & the Blues Stompers. Up in Boston, Ronnie Earl, still using his given surname Horvath, was beginning to try stage monikers such as Little Ronnie. After a while, the winds of change were swirling. Ronnie and bassist, Mudcat Ward were searching for musical colleagues that wanted to play bluer, lower down, earthier and produce the highest quality blues.
Ronnie chose to book a series of dates out of town, under the name "The Dueces." Neil Gouvin, well-known blues drummer in southern New England, was contacted to make the dates and demonstrated that he could provide the sought-after groove. After reviewing the situation from his own vantage point, Gouvin made the suggestion that altered blues history: get his vocalist/harp player Sugar Ray into this picture.
Although the band enjoyed the four-piece sound, they wanted a larger band and the addition of a piano player. A number of months later, Ronnie and Mudcat attended a show at Paul's Mall in Boston where Muddy Waters and his band were performing. The opening act, a band from New Hampshire, featured a damned good blues piano player. He turned out to be Little Anthony Geraci. Ronnie and Mudcat visited him in Newton, MA where he was in the middle of writing a sonata. The blues musicians offered Anthony the position and he signed on. The band christened itself Sugar Ray & the Bluetones.
They have had multiple personnel changes over the last 40 years but remain true to their blues roots- returning to The Knick and touring throughout the New England area.

Ashley Campbell and Thor Jensen form a unique meeting of musical genres as the duo Campbell/Jensen. With Ashley coming from the world of country and Americana and Thor having a diverse background from rock to gypsy jazz, they create a fresh sound as a duo. Ashley Campbell, daughter of country legend Glen Campbell began her career playing in her father's band on several world tours and has found success as a solo artist in the country music scene; most notably with her debut single "Remembering" which she wrote for her father. Her original music has taken her all over the world, from China to Japan, to the mainstage at London's O2 Arena to opening for Kris Kristofferson and the Bellamy Brothers. She has also been spotlighted for her banjo playing with Rascal Flatts in the music video for their hit single "Banjo". Thor Jensen, a virtuoso guitarist and songwriter from New York has traveled many different roads. From touring the world with Hazmat Modine, playing Americana with Quiet Life opening for the likes of Dr. Dog, Portugal. The Man and Shovels and Rope, then onto joining the Stephane Wrembel Band, playing the music of Django Reinhardt, performing at Carnegie Hall and all over the world, all the while immersing himself in New York's jazz scene. Ashley and Thor started Campbell/Jensen in late 2021 and have been playing music together ever since. Both being strong instrumentalists in addition to the combination of Thor's deep baritone and Ashley's clear as a bell vocals, together they make a one of a kind blend. Their debut album “Turtle Cottage” is out now!

In a digital world, elevating your creative look or aesthetic is an essential part of visual language. This session will dive into the importance of documenting artwork, developing a story, contemporary pricing, demystifying , and building a professional brand, and a touch on contemporary market analysis. Participants will learn the basic principles of photographing artwork, creating a consistent style, and understanding the process of establishing an online identity.
Session 3: July 30, 6-8p
A Comprehensive Approach to Building Your Artist Website
(Building a website, and Digital Footprint)
Utilizing the skills and techniques from previous sessions, participants will learn how to build an effective artist website. This session will provide step-by-step instructions to navigate the process of website creation, uploading your artwork images, and promoting your practice. Websites can seem intimidating, but we will work to simplify and demystify this topic!

Mike Donehey:
Mike Donehey has seen his fair share of the unexpected. Following a potentially fatal car crash as a teen, Mike learned to play the guitar while still in bed recovering from his injuries. Learning the guitar quickly gave birth to songwriting, and that songwriting soon led to the formation of a band.
That band, Tenth Avenue North , became one of the most loved and successful artists in Christian music. At the beginning of 2020, despite widespread notoriety and a devout following, Tenth Avenue North ’s members began to sense they each had their own unexpected and unique roads to follow. Mike seized this opportunity, reveling in the excitement to expand as a storyteller, communicator, and thought instigator wherever his voice could be heard.
Mike’s acclaimed book, Finding God’s Life for My Will , was an immediate best-seller. Mike’s newest book, Grace In The Gray, reveals a four-stage process to help people in relationships, professional settings, and social situations discover how to focus on the person before them more than the argument set against them.
Perhaps most exciting has been Mike’s writing and producing new music. His acclaimed solo album Flourish is just the beginning of the flow of new music coming our way.
The unexpected has a way of disrupting our lives in ways we might not have ever chosen. For Mike, learning to embrace the unexpected has been the very thing that continues to bring encouraging and soul-healing art. Looking forward, Mike is trusting to be led in any way that will allow him to continue to serve and inspire.
Matt Hammitt:
Matt Hammitt is a singer, songwriter, author, and speaker. Matt was the lead singer for the band Sanctus Real from 1996-2016. He has been the recipient of three Dove Awards and has been nominated for two Grammy Awards for his work with Sanctus Real. Matt has written over fifteen chart topping songs, performed by Sanctus Real and other musical artists.
An Ohio native, Matt now lives in Nashville with his wife, Sarah, and their four children. Passion for family is what led him to step away from Sanctus Real in 2016, to spend more time at home. Matt details this difficult transition in his book Lead Me: Finding Courage to Fight for Your Marriage, Children, and Faith. Matt holds nothing back in this unfiltered story of his life, so far.
In 2022, the Hammitts released a documentary called Bowen’s Heart. This feature length documentary film follows (then) eight-year-old Bowen Hammitt through his third major open heart surgery, his family caught in the tension between hoping the surgery will make his life better and knowing it could make things much worse

A man like Dave Mason never leaves touring. Yet, at 78, there are no guarantees…so now is the moment to experience a legend! Don’t miss your chance to see this iconic artist live and may these 2025 performances become treasured memories that last a lifetime.
Dave Mason returns to touring in 2025 with ‘Let It Flow’, which isn’t just the name of a song but it’s his philosophy in life. As a guitarist, singer, songwriter and a producer, Dave has always put forth that great songs come from a state of being quiet enough to hear the flow of the music before it ever hits the page. He has devoted his life to developing a deep sense of inner listening and the gifted capacity to bring it all to life.
You don’t want to miss this legendary artist as he performs deep cuts and classic favorites that have been loved by legions of fans for more than half a century. Fans can expect a unique concert experience as all songs are interwoven with Dave’s rich storytelling of a history that encompasses over five decades in rock n’ roll.
Anyone who’s listened to Dave’s music, or has seen him in concert, knows that he’s playing because he loves it. He is authentic. You wouldn’t know that he’s shy and introverted by nature if you’ve seen his powerful performances. Dave has been described as a ‘gunslinger’, and what you’ll witness firsthand is a man dedicated to preserving the vitality of music, staying genuine and faithful to the spirit of excellence.

New London, CT., December 26, 2025 - The City of New London and the New London NAACP will have a ceremony tonight starting at 5:00 pm at the Parade Plaza to light the Kinara for the first night of Kwanzaa. We invite the community to come out and enjoy the celebration.
The colors of each candle have symbolic meanings. The black candle represents the African people, the red candles symbolize their struggles, and the green represents hope for the future. The number of candles represents the seven principles of Kwanzaa. Together, the candles are called the mishumaa saba. The candles are lit according to the numbering of the Principles:
Umoja (1)- (Unity) To strive for and maintain unity in the family, community, nation, and race.
Kujichagulia (2) - (Self-Determination)
Ujima (3) - (Collective Work and Responsibility)
Ujamaa (4)- (Cooperative Economics)
Nia (5) - (Purpose)
Kuumba (6) - (Creativity)
Imani (7) - (Faith)
The word kinara is a Swahili word that means candle holder. The seven candles represent the Seven Principles (or Nguzo Saba) of Kwanzaa. Red, green, and black are the symbolic colors of the holiday. During the week of Kwanzaa, a new candle is lit on the kinara each day.
